This weekend was not super honeymoon-y. Nick had a ton of schoolwork to work on as he finishes up his quarter, and I was busy getting ready for my trip back home to New York. Tomorrow I am heading home, mainly to celebrate my friend Christy’s wedding, and then to spend some time with my family. So I thought I would post some pretty pictures from another one of my favorite hikes on Oahu – Tantalus. This 8-mile round-trip hike took us 8 hours. The trail starts out at the very popular Manoa Falls Trail. This is a short, hike that is usually pretty crowded with tourists. Most of these pictures were taken with Nick’s GoPro! It’s easy to see why so many tourists choose this trail. A quick (and a little bit muddy!) .8 mile hike takes you to this beautiful waterfall. Most people turn around from here and go back. But after you see the waterfall, walk a few feet as if you were going to go back. On the right side you will see a trail head for the ‘Aihualama Trail. This is the trail that will take you up Tantalus. There are many different trails here that all intersect so you really have to pay attention to where you are going. We have been using The Hiker’s Guide to Oahu to map out our trails and actually took it with us so we could follow his directions exactly. There were much less tourists along this trail! Some of the views along the way: It was not until we neared the top that we realized we could have just driven to the top. But what’s the fun in that?? Look at all that gear! Anddd we made it! Rather than just run back down, we hung out for a little bit at the top with a picnic. After that we had to hike all the way back down! But it was much easier going down. If you don’t want to hike 8 miles, you can always do the Round Top Drive. An advantage of doing the drive is that you can stop at a number of scenic points along the way, like this one.
